Thank you for joining us for Rooted in Community: Advancing Black Maternal Health Through Education & Advocacy, a transformative four-day virtual summit culminating in an in-person gathering in Austin, TX.

Through engaging panels, interactive discussions, and action-oriented workshops, we explored the historical, social, and systemic factors shaping Black birthing experiences while equipping participants with tools for advocacy, culturally responsive care, and policy engagement.

This summit was designed to educate, empower, and mobilize providers, birth workers, policy advocates, and community members in the fight to improve Black maternal health.

This Summit is designed for anyone committed to improving maternal health outcomes in their community. Attendees included:

Healthcare providers (doctors, nurses, midwives, OB/GYNs, community health workers)

Students: We encouraged students both in academic (high school and college) and vocational fields (especially doula, lactation, and midwifery students) interested in attending.

Community-based Birthworkers (doulas, lactation specialists, community-based birthwork nonprofit staff and community-based midwives) were particularly encouraged to attend.

Virtual Sessions

April 11, 14, 15, & 16 all sessions were virtual. Participants were able to access from anywhere with the Whova app! Recordings of the sessions remain available to view on the app for 90 days post-event.

In-Person Day

Final Day, April 17th: In-Person Community Gathering & Action Summit (Austin, TX)

On the last day of Black Maternal Health Week, the summit brought together speakers, community members, and advocates for an interactive in-person experience focused on healing, networking, and action-planning. There were engaging workshops, resource-sharing, and opportunities to connect with local organizations working to improve Black maternal health. Complimentary lunch and childcare were be provided for those attending the in-person gathering.
